Position Description

Description: The Department of Leadership and Professional Studies in the College of Education invites applications for a seven full-time Assistant/Associate Clinical professor (pending budget approval) in the Online Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program at Seattle University. We seek justice-oriented clinical mental health counselor educators who are devoted to social justice, equity, anti-racism, and anti-oppression. The Counseling Department has two specializations (Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling) and two delivery types (on-ground and online). The online CMHC program was established in 2022 and is currently seeking CACREP-accreditation.

The position begins September 1, 2024 and is remote. This position is a 9-month faculty appointment with summer teaching opportunities for overload. Successful candidates will join a social justice-oriented counseling department informed by Seattle University's commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion guided by the university. We seek faculty colleagues who are flexible and committed to working in a program that provides high quality teaching of students for entry-level CMHC roles. The College of Education emphasizes engagement in teaching and service that contributes to building and sustaining equitable, diverse, and inclusive communities.

Responsibilities: Assistant/Associate Clinical Professors are responsible for providing teaching and service to the program, the department, the College, the University, and the counseling profession. Faculty teach graduate-level counseling courses in clinical mental health counseling, provide high quality faculty advising, curriculum updates and development, continuous improvement activities, and service within the program. Candidates must demonstrate experience with teaching and leadership in online counseling programs, quality teaching and service, student and community engagement, a commitment to collaboration, an understanding of the mission of Jesuit higher education, and alignment with the counseling department's social justice mission.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
  • Earned doctorate in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program by August 15, 2024
  • Two or more years of experience teaching in an online clinical mental health counseling program
  • Familiarity with CACREP accreditation standards and processes
  • Experience and competence in teaching and clinical supervision of counseling graduate students
  • Professional experience in clinical mental health counseling settings
  • License-eligible as a mental health counselor/professional counselor
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice as evidenced by curriculum development, scholarly agenda, and/or community engagement and collaboration
  • Commitment to collaborative professional relationships with faculty colleagues
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion and theory-to-practice research in teaching and service

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit and support diverse faculty and students;
  • Commitment to team work and collaboration across the program and department;
  • Three years of experience teaching in a fully online clinical mental health counseling program;
  • Knowledgeable of CACREP and accreditation processes;
  • Full professional counseling license in state of residence at time of application or apply for full licensure as a mental health counselor within one year of hire;
  • Sustained engagement with communities that are underrepresented in counseling and mental health care, and demonstrated ability to integrate this experience into program development and teaching;
  • Candidates with historically marginalized identities are strongly encouraged to apply;
  • Understanding and treatment of substance use and process addictions.

Compensation at a Glance:

Salary Range: $75,000-$80,000

Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.
