Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seek candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the non-tenure clinician educator track. Expertise is required in the specific area of Cancer Multi-omics Diagnostics. With this expertise, the successful applicant will serve as a Director for the newly forming CLIA-certified Cancer Research & Development (R & D) Laboratory to meet the growing needs of CHOP's robust cancer clinical trials. The CLIA R & D Laboratory will provide multi-omics testing using advanced technologies to inform patient care. Applicants must have an M.D. and/or Ph.D degree. American Board of Medical Genetics certification in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics or Molecular Genetic Pathology certification is required following Pathology residency.
Physicians must be eligible/licensed in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Experience with Next Generation Sequencing (exome/panel sequencing, whole genome sequencing, RNA sequencing) and related databases, analysis tools, and packages is required. Experience in cancer cytogenetics including chromosomal analysis, FISH, SNP array, or CGH array for copy number analysis is also required.
Teaching responsibilities may include teaching fellows, residents, medical, and graduate students.
Clinical responsibilities may include the development and implementation of tools for diagnostic and translational medicine, establishing and improving standards and methods for the interpretation of multi-omic data, assessing risk factors, and appropriate quantitative interpretation of data in clinical lab settings. Additional responsibilities include new clinical test development and implementation using cutting-edge technologies, data analysis, and sign-out, laboratory quality control and improvement, and communication of results to oncologists and other medical professionals. We seek someone who can help facilitate expanding analysis and diagnostic interpretation to rare pediatric tumors and consult on the infrastructure for the transmission, storage, harmonization, and usage of multi-omics data. The successful candidate will also serve as an Assistant/Associate Director for Cancer Diagnostics within the Division of Genomic Diagnostics. The Division performs a wide range of tests for diagnosis of both constitutional and cancer disorders. The successful candidate will play a strong role in multidisciplinary tumor conferences and molecular tumor boards.
Research or scholarship responsibilities may include various aspects of cancer translational research. The establishment of collaborative work in multi-omic diagnostics is highly desirable.
The successful applicant will serve as a Director for the newly forming CLIA-certified Cancer Research & Development (R & D) Laboratory to meet the growing needs of CHOP's robust cancer clinical trials. Faculty in the CE track are expected to develop a national reputation in an area of academic focus, with this work being either investigator-initiated or collaborative and associated with appropriate publications and some degree of funding. The Perelman School of Medicine and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia are known for their emphasis on translational research and the candidate will be expected to demonstrate a strong record/potential in epidemiologic, translational, or clinical research.
