Job Description

The Pediatric Residency Training Program at University of Nevada School of Medicine, Reno is accepting applications for a graduating pediatric resident to serve as Chief Resident during the 2024-2025 academic year to oversee our training program which will be recruiting it's second class of interns to start in July 2024. The chief resident will be essential to ensuring the success of our program and contributing to its growth and development. Role responsibilities are as follows:
  • Clinical
    • Serve as a supervising attending on the inpatient and outpatient settings in rotation with other attending faculty as appropriate.
    • Support interns and residents on clinical rotations as needed.
  • Teaching/Curriculum Development
    • Organization of the academic calendar, specifically academic half day curriculum
    • Participate in didactic and small group teaching.
  • Administration
    • Resident block schedule creation and maintenance
    • Development of rotation schedules, including coordination of outside rotators and other learners
    • Revise and update Residency Handbook
    • Proctor In-Training Exam
    • Organize and coordinate all absence requests.
    • Be a resident liaison between residents and faculty.
    • Attend Graduate Medical Education Committee and Resident Forum meetings, as well as hospital-wide committee meetings as needed.
    • Be a member of the Program Evaluation Committee, Clinical Competency Committee and Resident Recruitment Committee
  • Leadership
    • Participation in applicant interviews and intern selection/rank list
    • Development of agenda and coordination of monthly Pediatric House staff meetings
    • Work collaboratively with members of the Program Leadership Team
  • Mentorship
    • Hosting social events for residents
    • Lead collaborative class-wide and residency-wide SWOT analyses as needed.
    • Collaborative mentorship and training of future chiefs
    • Providing moral support for trainees
    • Coordination of mental health and resident wellness initiatives


Required Qualifications
  • Must be graduating from an ACGME-accredited Pediatric training program in June of 2024 (MD, DO).
  • Must be prepared to start July 1, 2024. If accepted for the position, and if possible, we will coordinate with your current program to allow you to complete a "chief elective" rotation at the conclusion of the 2023-2024 academic year.
  • Must be American Board of Pediatrics eligible in 2024.
